Map of Loch Ness
Fort Augustus and the Abbey self catering apartment is at the extreme southern tip of Loch Ness, we call it the gateway to Loch Ness because from here you can explore either side of the loch. Both sides have their individual identity and character. Inverfarigaig is midway down the south side of Loch Ness, in forested hills, home to the largest population of Red squirrels in Scotland. Drumnadrochit is part way down the western side of the Loch where there are shops and Nessie exhibitions. Urquhart castle visitor centre here is well worth a visit. Pine martens are quite commonly seen in the area and visitors to south Loch Ness regularly see them in and around the wodlands. Roe and Sika deer frequent the forests around the loch, whilst red deer can be seen in the hills to the east of Whitebridge and Farr. |
